Simplified Pickleball Rules for EaZy Play

Pickleball Serve

All serves must be underhand – paddle below the waist.
Server stands behind baseline.
Winning team chooses the side of court they want to start on.

Faults of the Game

Ball travels out of bounds.
Ball cannot bounce twice.
Stepping into the kitchen while volleying (hitting the ball from the air – no bounce).
Ball is hit into the net. Ball can hit the top of net and fall into opposing teams' side.

The Kitchen (also known as the non-volley zone)

The kitchen is found on either side of the net and is 7 feet long (14 feet total for both side of the court).
The ball must bounce in the kitchen before a player can step into the kitchen.
The player must leave the kitchen once the ball has been hit.
A player can be in the kitchen at any time, when not hitting a volley.

Lines on the Court

Like tennis, a pickleball hitting any line (other than the kitchen line when serving) is considered in.
If the pickleball hits the kitchen line when serving, it’s considered a fault and loss of serve.

Double Bounce

After the serve, the ball must bounce once on the receiving teams court, and once on the servers' court before a team can volley (hit the ball out of the air).
